Reporter/Bill Martin Victoria Drake scored nine points to lead the Lady Tigers in their loss to Sealy Monday night. Reporter/Bill Martin Trying to shake off the affects of the Franklin Tournament, the Rockdale Lady Tigers were stopped by Sealy Monday night in Tiger Gym, 58-22.

Sealy had just visited Rockdale, finishing second to Thorndale in the Lady Tiger Classic.

Sealy’s press bothered the Lady Tigers and harrassed them into 27 turnovers, including 20 in the second and third quarters when Sealy began to pull away.

During the giveaway periods, Rockdale went over eight minutes without scoring as Sealy constructed a 30-point lead on the strength of four three-pointers.

After Devin Flores’ trey from the left side closed the score to 20-8 with 5:53, the Lady Tigers did not score again until the 6:05 mark of the third quarter after Jill Young took a pass underneath from Victoria Drake to make the score 42-10.

Flores and Drake led Rockdale with nine points apiece as Flores was perfect from behind the arc on three tries.

“We fell short of our goals at the Franklin Tournament,” said Lady Tiger Coach Liz Galloway- McQuitter. “It was really a great opportunity to get some wins and we did not do that. We put together some good moments on the floor, but after the Bremond win, we did not play an entire game.

“We have to just keep working to get better and we have set short term goals focusing on accomplishing them for ech game. If we can get this still evolving team to do that, I think we will be able to get the self esteem up.”

“When you see tangible and intangible goals accomplished, it sometimes takes the focus off the losses that tend to beat you down.”

In the Franklin Tournament, the Lady Tigers jumped on Bremond early and smothered them 56-15 in the first round.

Drake and Janeene Maloy led the way with 10 points apiece

In their 57-43 loss to host Franklin, the Lady Tigers fell behind 44-24 at intermission and played catch up in the second half.

Shalona Mitchell popped in three treys to pace Rockdale with 13 points, followed by Drake’s eight.

Against Little River Academy, a second half scoring drought and 31 turnovers doomed the Lady Tigers to a 32-17 loss.

Drake, Young and Maloy had four points each for Rockdale, with Drake pulling down five boards.

The Tigers were two and through in the boys side of the Franklin Tournament, falling to the Bryan junior varsity 49-37 and former district mate Madisonville 53- 45.
