Velocita isn’t bringing 5,000 jobs and a “green” community development to Rockdale.
Doug Hutchison, Velocita CEO, told a small, disappointed group of civic, business and school leaders at the Chamber of Commerce Tuesday afternoon the company was unable to reach a deal with Alcoa to purchase 11,000 acres at the former Rockdale operations. Full Story

RHS coach resigns after ‘improper relationship’ charge
A first-year assistant football coach at Rockdale High School has resigned as the result of crimi nal charges filed Thursday alleging an improper relationship with a female student.
Christopher Taylor, 31, was charged w ith “improper relationship between educator and student,” according to Rockdale Police Lt. J. D. Newlin. Full Story

Milam County jobless rate back up to 10.8%
Despite higher rates, state adds 19,100 jobs
Unemployment rates are on the rise throughout the state including Milam County, according to reports released Friday by the Texas Workforce Commission. Jobless numbers rose to 10.8 in Milam County for November 2010, compared to 10.5 the same time last year. Full Story
