SHERIFF’S REPORT

Child shooting draws investigation

Cameron police and Child Protective Services (CPS) are conducting an investigation into what they’ve termed an accidental shooting in which a 13-year-old boy was shot in the chest with a 20-gauge shotgun.

Lt. K r is Str inger said t wo brothers, 13 and 11, were home alone at 707 East 15th in Cameron Sunday.

“The 11-year-old obtained his father’s shotgun and accidently shot his brother in the chest,” Stringer said. “It’s unclear at this time how a live round was loaded in it.”

Stringer said the names of the two boys are being withheld as the case is still under investigation.

Stringer said the 11-year-old ran across the street to seek help from neighbor Josh Brunson. “Mr. Brunson played a huge part in saving the victim’s life,” Stringer said.

The victim was operated on at Scott & White Hospital for what were termed “life threatening” injuries and remained in stable condition on Tuesday.
