Early ‘present’ as RISD budget deficit vanishes

Rockdale ISD school trustees got an early Christmas present in a noon meeting Friday. The $ 371,294 deficit in the 2009-10 budget has virtually disappeared.

That had been expected but was confirmed Friday when the auditing firm of Lott-Vernon & Co. reported more than $300,000 in budgeted expenditures went unspent and was returned.

In other business Friday, trustees gave Supt. Dr. Howell Wright authority to negotiate to purchase property that includes “the blue house” on Bushdale Road between Murray Avenue and Rockdale Junior-High School.

“ We have no immediate plans for the property but we’ve been trying to purchase it for years,” board president Lee Jenkins said.
