Adams

Graveside services for Thelma Adams, 87, of Palestine, formerly of Rockdale, were held Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010, in Eutaw Cemetery in Kosse with Rev. Doug Springer of Full Gospel Church in Rockdale officiating.

Mrs. Adams died Tuesday, Dec. 14, in Greenbriar Nursing Home in Palestine.

She was born Sept. 7, 1923, in Kosse to Thomas Allan and Frances Viola (Morgan) Barber.

Mrs. Adams was a retired bookkeeper for Bob Smith Corp., a welding supply business in Houston.

She was a Palestine resident for the past 10 years, formerly living in Rockdale and Houston, where she lived for a number of years.

While in Rockdale, she attended Meadowbrook Baptist Church.

Mrs. Adams enjoyed bowling, embroidery, crocheting, reading, knitting, cooking and painting classes.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, William B. Swift on Nov. 22, 1969; her second husband, James G. Adams on Nov. 14, 1979; a son, Aaron Leon Swift, on March 10, 1972; a sister, Joyce Greensage; two brothers, Hershel Barber and Aubrey Barber; and her parents.

Survivors are two sons, Wiley Swift and wife Dorothy of Palestine, Kenneth Swift and wife Elizabeth of Cypress; a daughter, Sharon Koth and husband David of Willis; three brothers, Gene Barber of Caldwell; Harold Barber of Bremond, Royce Barber of Rockdale; and two sisters, Mae Beth Young of Hearne, Mary Spitzenberger of Round Rock; also, five grandchildren an seven great-grandchildren.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
