Matl

Services for Johnnie L. Matl, 86, of Rockdale were held Monday, Dec. 20, 2010, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home with Deacon Don Sims and Rev. Anselm Anukam officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at Cyclone.

Mr. Matl died Wednesday, Dec. 15, in Sante Fe Hospital in Temple.

He was born Oct. 6, 1924 in the Double Header community of Bell County to Thomas and Johanna (Vacek) Matl.

Mr. Matl was a World War II veteran and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a member of Purple Heart Veterans of Austin.

On Aug. 20, 1949, he married Johnnie Lorraine Marek in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Temple.

The Matls have lived in Rockdale the past 47 years.

Mr. Matl was a potliner with Alcoa for 27 years.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rockdale.

Mr. Matl was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Rev. Tom Matl, Bob Matl, Frank Matl and Jerry Matl; and three sisters, Jane Gerecky, Lillian Koustran and Mary Matl.

Survivors are his wife, Johnnie Lorraine Matl of Rockdale; three daughters, Rita Cavaness and husband Scott of Ovilla, Karen Bott and husband Alan of Richmond, Virginia, Olivia Albright and husband Bill of Arlington; a sister, Anna Paruzinski of Belton; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Tennant, Victoria Bott, Alexandria Bott, Jessica Haney, Pamela Jones, Stephen Albright and Brandon Albright; and three great-grandchildren, Kayla Martinez, Isabella Jones, Balian Jones.

Pallbearers were Jerry Matl Jr., Scott Cavaness, Kelly Haney, Neil Jones, Brandon Albright and Stephen Albright.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
