Rockdale’s Strelsky Miracle Network ‘state champ’
Two thousand eleven is going to be so much better than 2010 for 13-year-old Dustin Strelsky of Rockdale.
On Jan. 20, 2010, Dustin sustained a spinal cord injury, leaving him in a wheelchair, in a wreck near Hearne that also injured his mother and sister and took the life of a 73-year-old Jacksonville resident. Full Story
Acosta gets 2-year term as treasurer
CAMERON—Milam County Treasurer Linda Acosta will continue serving in that post for at least two more years.
County commissioners on Monday unanimously named Acosta as county treasurer after accepting a “letter of decline” from County Auditor Danica Lara, who had been elected to the treasurer position for four years on Nov. 2. Full Story

I hope you had a fun and busy holiday(s) like we did. We had about 17 people and 4 dogs for several days to help us celebrate and enjoy each meal and activity.
We had a pug, a shih tzu (both dressed in their fancy sweaters and finery), and two mutts (totally naked) and, thankfully, they all got along fine (the dogs, not the people— just kidding). Full Story

New cost basis reporting requirement for sale of securities purchased after 2010
You may have heard about a new law that will change how the financial-services industry reports cost basis on sold securities. Beginning with year-end 2011 tax reporting, all brokerage firms must track, adjust and report cost basis data for certain sold securities on clients’ 1099-B forms and directly to the IRS.
