New Year’s Eve dance at KC Hall Friday night
Denice Doss

Christmas was great around the Doss house, I hope it was at your place too. As we get ready to ring in the New Year I look forward to working with each of you in 2011. As we continue to encourage our businesses and promote our town, I know that good things are coming for Rockdale.

I encourage us all to work together, to shop local whenever possible and look for ways to do your part to make this town a great place to live.

I received an email a few weeks back and it only supports what I have been saying for a long time. I wish I could publish the whole article but the gist of the article says that, “According toa3yearGallupstudyof26 U.S. Cities, people’s love and passion for their community may be a leading indicator for local economic growth. Surprisingly, social offerings, openness and beauty are far more important than people’s perceptions of the economy, jobs or basic services in creating a lasting emotional bond between people and their community.”

“This study is important because its findings about emotional attachment to place point to a new perspective that we encourage leaders to consider; it is especially valuable as we aim to strengthen our communities during this tough economic time,” said Paula Ellis, Knight Foundation’s vice president for strategic initiatives.

As we enter the new year it is to our advantage to create that feeling of community and the importance of place that Rockdale provides. The feeling of uniting in all efforts to bring success to our town. If you are looking for a way to get involved in the new year and to make this truly your town, look around.

There are so many good causes and good projects that you could help with. That may include helping with cleanup of the town, working with an organization, joining a club, or starting your own project. With everyone working together it only makes it better for us all.

This Friday is our big New Year’s Eve party at the KC Hall. If you haven’t gotten your tickets yet it’s not too late. Come by the Chamber and get your tickets today or you can buy them at the door.

I wish you a wonderful and Happy New Year and know that 2011 holds great things for us all.

Until next time I leave you with this...Every day is a new beginning. Treat it that way. Stay away from what might have been, and look at what can be.
