Police issue arrest warrant after scammer gets $2,890

Rockdale police have identified, and issued a warrant for, a man they say has been operating odd job scams, mostly involving elderly people.

“He gets an advance for doing work, takes the money and then the work never gets done,” Police Chief Thomas Harris said.

“ One couple was bilked of $2,890,” Harris said.

BURGLARY—Harris said a Hunter Street residence was burglarized during the past week.

“ They had been gone, came home and found a 42-inch flat screen television, a 20-inch flatscreen television and a Sony Playstation had been taken in the burglary,” Harris said.

OFFENSES—Harris said an outside heating unit was removed from a vacant house on MLK Street during the week.

Other offenses included a stolen airgas bottle taken from a vehicle, possession of alcohol by a minor and two reports of public intoxication.

ARRESTS—Arrests during the week included three for public intoxication and five on traffic offenses.

WRECK—Police investigated a two-vehicle collision at 4:36 p.m. Thursday at the corner of US 79 and FM 908 (Cameron and Main).

Drivers were listed as Johnnielyn Brown of Rockdale and Teresa Mills of Milano.

Damage estimates were not available from police.

CITATIONS—Citations issued during the past week included 15 for speeding, six for no valid MVI sticker, three for driving while license invalid, two for operating a vehicle with expired license plates and one each for disregarding official traffic control device, expired driver’s license and failure to maintain financial responsibility.

Four citations for violation of city ordinances were issued during the past week, along with one for a minor attempting to purchase alcohol.

SERVICE CALLS—Officers responded to 153 total calls for service during the week, and 112 through the 911 system.
