Rural burn ban is back for Milam
Rural Milam County is again under an outdoor burning ban.
The ban was temporarily lifted last week after recent rains but went back into effect at 5 p.m. Sunday.
There seems to be some confusion just what a burn ban means. Rockdale police received at least one call of residents in the city limits attempting an outdoor brush burn during the ban reprieve.
“It’s always against the law for outdoor burning inside the city limits,” Lt. J. D. Newlin said. “The burn bans you hear about going on and off are only in rural areas.”
“Barbecues are legal, of course,” he said. “Trash and brush burnings are not.”
