Tigers second at Allen

Tripped up by Cedar Ridge Tuesday night

The Rockdale Tigers narrowly missed out on tournament championship and settled for second at Allen Academy.

In a round-robin style tournament, the Tigers fell to eventual tournament champion Houston Cypress Christian 50-49 in their first game.

After Tueday night’s 57-55 loss to Round Rock Cedar Ridge, the Tigers are even on the season at 7-7.

Cody Skubal and Ethan Brinkley were named to the all-tournament team.

Skubal accounted for 33 points, 14 rebounds and nine assists in the tournament, while Brinkley put up 29 points and 1o assists.

“We needed the games to get us back in the swing of things. ,” said Rockdale Coach Dusty Loewe. “We played better progressivly each time we played a game.”

In their final game of the tournament, the Tigers ransacked Richards 76-20 on the strength of a 27-0 first quarter explosion.

Brinkley turned in a seasonhigh 15 points, while ripping down 15 boards and dishing off three assists. Skubal had 13.

Before that, Rockdale handled host Allen Academy 54-32 for the second time this season.

Skubal and Le’Raven Clark put in 12 points apiece with Skubal adding four rebounds, four steals and four assists as Clark snared seven caroms.

In the tournament opener, the Tigers were down by 11 and fought their way back to one with under 10 seconds, before falling 50-49 to Houston Cypress Christian.

William Dean led the way with 11, while Skubal turned in seven rebounds and three assists.

Tuesday night, James David muscled inside for 15 points, followed by Skubal and Deans with 13 points apiece.
