Blackhawk Healthcare is technically dead but there weren’t any mourners at Monday’s Rockdale Hospital District board session.
The RHD formally closed out the Blackhawk era by rejecting the essentially defunct company’s still-on-thetable bid to purchase the Richards Memorial Hospital, then looked aggressively to the future. Full Story

Milano clinic emphasizes bottom line, market sense
Dr. Jason Johnson, Agrilife extension economist and keynote speaker for the 2010 Central Texas Cow-Calf Clinic, is a bottom line kind of guy.
“Don’t name your cows,” he told an audience of 130 gathered in the Milano Livestock Exchange Friday. “Gertrude may not ever ride that trailer (to the slaughterhouse) but I’ll bet No. 22 will.” Full Story
City appoints boards, calls 2011 city election
Rockdale City Council members, who for months have been talking about making appointments to several city boards and commissions, made some progress Monday.
Meeting in regular session at City Hall, council members made seven appointments to the Planing & Zoning Commission and two to the City Library Board. Full Story
Wild foot chase ends in arrest
Man, 29, charged with indecency, evading arrest
MILANO—A 29-year- old Milano man was arrested Friday and charged with indecency with a child after a foot chase involving a deputy sheriff and two state troopers.
Charles Penn Jr. was also charged with evading arrest and resisting arrest.
He remains in the county jail in lieu of $29,000 bond. Full Story
2010 weather: snow, heat but not much rain
Sure, Texas weather has a reputation for being unpredictable but this is ridiculous.
On Feb. 23, 2010 a surprise fiveinch snow blanketed Rockdale, taking its place in weather history as one of the top half-dozen snowfalls in the 86 years official weather records have been kept locally.
Two days previously Rockdale’s high temperature was 77 degrees. Full Story
Area closings announced for MLK Day
Monday, Jan. 17, is the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday in Rockdale and throughout the nation.
There are no classes in the Rockdale, Milano, Gause or Thorndale ISDs but teachers have staff training days in Thorndale, Milano and Gause.
