Funeral services for William W. “Bill” Houston Sr., 88, were held Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Burial was in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Rockdale with Pastor Dale Wells officiating.

Mr. Houston died Thursday, Jan. 6, in Olin E. Teague V. A. Hospital in Temple.

He was born Oct. 25, 1922, in Iredell to Truman James and Eula Mary (Sursa) Houston.

Mr. Houston was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II.

He married Mildred Anthis on Jan. 12, 1945.

Mr. Houston has lived in Hearne since 1970 and was formerly of Houston.

He worked as a heavy equipment operator and was a member of Hearne Masonic Lodge No. 361 AF& AM.

Mr. Houston was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred A nthis Houston, on June 2, 1999; his parents; a sister, Virginia Haney; and two brothers, Floyd and Jack Houston.

Survivors are two sons, Thomas J. Houston and wife Enriqueta of Mexico, William Houston Jr. and w ife Mar y of Hearne; a brother, Roy Joe Houston and wife Patsy of Houston; a sister, Maxine Birkelbach and husband Stanley of Fredericksburg; four grandchildren, Donna Schwent and husband Joe of Allentown, Pennsylvania, Thomas J. Houston Jr. and wife Janie of Hearne, William W. Houston, III and wife Deana of Hearne, Vickie Matthews and husband Vince of Gause; and 10 great-grandchildren, Wendie, Jon, Rebecca, Destiny, Sarah, Gnet, Brittany and husband Travis, William Wayne, Thomas and McKenzie; also, six great-great-grandchildren.
