Economic development ‘summit’ set for Thursday
Rockdale’s economic future, and how to make it as bright as possible, will be the topic for an Economic Development Summit, set for 7 p.m. Thursday in the Patterson Civic Center.
“Purpose of the summit is for local organizations involved in economic development to discuss roles and responsibilities concerning economic development,” City Manager Kelvin Knauf said. Full Story
A HIGHLY-LOCALIZED ICE STORM
It wasn’t the worst ice storm in Rockdale history but it may have been the most localized. The city’s Allday Street water tower overflowed the night of Jan 11-12 as the mercury dropped to 22 degrees and this was the result underneath. The ice sheet also covered part of Allday Street and crews had to sand the area to make it safe for traffic. Full Story

Rockdale man receives transplant after being on list just two weeks
A s each calendar year ends, people make resolutions. In Rober t Billig’s case this year’s resolution was just to live to see the next. The 60-yearold Rockdale man has had heart problems most of the last two decades and last year was told by physicians that he needed a heart transplant. On Dec. 31, he got that new heart after being on the actual list just two weeks. Full Story

Rockdale rebates start year on downside
County total down; other area cities up
Texas Comptroller Susan Combs announced last week that the state sales tax revenue in December was $1.81 billion, up 9.4 percent compared to December 2009. That in turn, led to rebates in most of Milam County that were above those received at the same time last year.
However, the City of Rockdale and Milam County itself received less than the amounts received in January 2010. Full Story
