Deputies check out burning violations

It may have rained in Milam County during the past week but there was still a burn ban in effect.

The Milam County Sheriff’s Department made two calls to reported burn ban violations within eight minutes of each other Thursday morning in widely separated areas of the county.

Deputy Mike Hoyt was called to a reported violation at 5:29 p.m. on County Road 303B north of Rockdale.

At 5:37 p.m. Deputy Effie Veracruz was called to check on a reported violation on FM 2027 near Baileyville.

Rural outside burning is prohibited during burn bans.

DRUG ARREST—State Trooper Erik Gaston made a drug arrest on Friday.

Demond Allen White, 30, of Houston was charged with possession of a controlled substance (4 to 400 grams) and possession of marijuana (less than two ounces).

White was released after posting $4,000 bond.

DEATH—The sheriff’s department was called to a report of an unattended death at 10:37 a.m. Sunday at a County Road 208 location.
