Economic development ‘summit’ set for Thursday
Rockdale’s economic future, and how to make it as bright as possible, will be the topic for an Economic Development Summit, set for 7 p.m. Thursday in the Patterson Civic Center.
“Purpose of the summit is for local organizations involved in economic development to discuss roles and responsibilities concerning economic development,” City Manager Kelvin Knauf said. Full Story
A HIGHLY-LOCALIZED ICE STORM
It wasn’t the worst ice storm in Rockdale history but it may have been the most localized. The city’s Allday Street water tower overflowed the night of Jan 11-12 as the mercury dropped to 22 degrees and this was the result underneath. The ice sheet also covered part of Allday Street and crews had to sand the area to make it safe for traffic. Full Story
Police: 20 calls per day in 2010
Rockdale police reported to almost 20 service calls per day from the public in 2010, virtually identical to the 2009 total.
Statistics compiled by police for the year just past showed officers responded to 7,043 calls, an average of 19.3 per day.
That compares to 7,287, or 19.6 per day, in 2009. Full Story
Forensics awaited on human remains
Hopes for identifying almost half a human skeleton, found by a road cleanup crew in northern Milam County Thursday, now rest with a team of forensics scientists at Texas State University.
Deputy Sheriff Chris White said about 40 percent of a skeleton was found by a crew doing cleanup work for the Texas Department of Transportation five miles north of Cameron. Full Story
Burn ban lifted until February 1
Milam Count y Judge Dave Barkemeyer has lifted the county’s rural outdoor burning ban until sundown, Feb. 1.
Rainfall since Jan. 1 has been 3.45 inches officially in Rockdale with greater totals reported throughout the county.
Outdoor burning is always illegal inside the city limits of Rockdale. Full Story
MARCHING FOR DR. KING—
The 2011 edition of Rockdale’s march down Martin Luther King Drive on MLK Day was the largest ever. More than 50 persons marched, pedaled, rode and drove the length of the street. Full Story
