A HIGHLY-LOCALIZED ICE STORM
It wasn’t the worst ice storm in Rockdale history but it may have been the most localized. The city’s Allday Street water tower overflowed the night of Jan 11-12 as the mercury dropped to 22 degrees and this was the result underneath. The ice sheet also covered part of Allday Street and crews had to sand the area to make it safe for traffic. Electronic sensors are supposed to regulate the pumps but they froze in the bone-chilling (for Rockdale) temperatures. The ice melted as it slowly warmed up later in the week.
