MVFD, Lions Club set fund-raisers

Two Milano civic organizations have set their big fund-raisers for this year. The Volunteer Fire Department will have its annual chili supper on Saturday, Feb. 12, while the Milano Evening Lions Club will host a pancake supper on March 12. Both events are at the Civic Center.

The MVFD chili supper event is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. until sold out. The evening will also include live and silent auctions and live music. Winners will be drawn at 7 p.m. for prizes to be given away. Tickets for those are on sale now from any MVFD member.

Prices for the chili supper are $ 6 for adults and $ 3 for children 12 and under. Prices includes drink and dessert as well and meals are available for dine in or carry out. Details are still being worked out for the Lions Club pancake supper. The event is scheduled for Saturday, March 12 at the civic center.

The Lions Club helps area school children who need them get glasses and also give scholarships to local seniors at graduation.

A spring “Meet the Eagles” is set for Feb. 10 and sponsored by the Milano Athletic Booster Club. The group has also set alumni baseball and softball games for March 5. For more information or to play in the alumni games, contact Karen Gray at 979-777-3960 or karen @cunninghamrealestate.com.

We extend our sympathy to the Melton family on the passing of A lbert Melton Sr. Services were held Jan. 15 in Rockdale w ith bur ial in the Griffin Chapel Cemetery.

Enjoyed our “new Aggie” this weekend as grandson Zachary Gaston came for a visit.

Son-in-law Buck Bakken is also an official “ Texas Aggie” now as he started classes there this week. Quite a few Lagrone and Cass family members bleed maroon.

Milano’s PATCH Club is collecting the Educational Box Tops and will turn them in for funds to help with the school. You can find them on certain food and soup labels. Labels can be turned in to the elementar y school of f ice, or let me know and I will get a PATCH Club member to come by and get them.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
