Pena

Services for Maria E. Pena, 70, were held Friday, Jan. 14, 2011, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial followed in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale. Rev. Efrain Villanueva and Deacon Don Sims officiated.

Rosary was recited Thursday, Jan. 13, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home.

Mrs. Pena died Monday, Jan. 10, in Odyssey Health Care Hospital in Houston.

She was born March 2, 1940, in Los Ramones, Mexico, to Lorenzo and Marta (Garcia) Gonzalez.

Mrs. Pena had been a Rockdale resident since 1977 and was formerly of New Braunfels.

She was a homemaker and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

She married Leonardo Pena on Nov. 8, 1958.

Mrs. Pena was preceded in death by a son, Leonardo Pena Jr.; her parents; a granddaughter, Angel Paiz; a brother and a sister.

Survivors are her husband, Leonardo Pena of Rockdale; two sons, Rene Pena and wife Kelley of Corsicana, Rolando Gonzalez Pena of Rockdale; two daughters, Martha Paiz and husband Carlos, Mandy DeLeon, all of Rockdale; a brother, Juan Gonzalez of Rio Grande City; and three sisters, Maria Dolores Olvera of Irving, Maria Guadalupe Gomez of Houston, Lita Marie Moya of Laredo; also, 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Carlos Paiz, Jr., Ricky Pena, Christopher Guzman, Jesse Gomez, Ryan Pena, Frankie Salcedo, Nicholas Young and Jorge Gomez.

Honorary pallbearers were the remaining great-grandchildren.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
