Music club honors a legend from RHS band’s golden era
Gerry Selden-Janik of Easterly is the organist at the 1,300- member First United Methodist Church in Bryan, playing a new $500,000 pipe organ. She is paid for her services.
She also now accompanies 53 Bryan High School students preparing for solo and ensemble competitions. She’s also paid for that. Full Story

My family is very large, in more than one sense of the word. We are always loud (to the point of obnoxious is others’ points of view) but always have fun, no matter the situation. I have so many childhood memories that I cherish of times spent at my grandmothers’ homes in Gause and Milano. Full Story
Project Graduation to hold pancake supper Feb. 8
Milano High School seniors are raising money for their Project Graduation event in May. The drug- free, alcohol-free all night event is held after commencement ceremonies at the school cafeteria. The group has two upcoming fund-raisers planned.
The first is a dessert silent auction to be held Tuesday, Feb. 1 at the high school gym during the scheduled basketball games. Full Story

‘Team Captain U’
Relay For Life of Milam County will hold a “Team Captain University” from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Feb. 5 in the Citizens National Bank community room in Rockdale, event chair Kim Jeter announced. Full Story

Girls win tourney in overtime; boys’ bracket this weekend
Gause Lady Bears junior high basketball team won the championship of their own tournament in overtime on Saturday. The tournament was held at the school gym on Friday and Saturday. The GJH boys basketball team will host a tournament this Friday and Saturday back at the gym. If you get a chance, go see these teams from around our area play. Full Story
Black History Month series starts next week
The 34th consecutive Black History Month series, authored by former Rockdale teacher Susie Sansom Piper, will begin next week in the Reporter.
“The Other Side of the Tracks” will begin its fourth year. Previ- ously Mrs. Piper authored “ Ebony Etchings,” sketches of local African-Americans,” for 27 years. Full Story
