City, school election filing to start Feb. 14

Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, is the first day to file for the May 14 area city and school elections. In Rockdale, terms of three “veterans” and one official who has been in office just a year, are expiring in 2011.

Terms of Barbara Grayson (Place 6) and Lisa Gerthe (Place 7) are expiring on the Rockdale ISD board of trustees.

Grayson has been on the school board for 15 years, Gerthe for nine.

Ter ms of east wa rd cit y council member Gerri Offield and west ward councilman Doug Calame are expiring in 2011.

Offield has served 12 years over a 15-year period while Calame won a special election just over one year ago.

DATES, PLACES—Feb. 12, is actually the first filing date but since that’s a Saturday, candidates may begin filing on the next Monday.

Cit y candidates may f ile weekdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Feb. 14 and March 14.

Location is City Hall.

School board hopefuls may file in the Central Administration Building between 7:45 a. m. and 4 p. m. Feb. 14 to March 14 with one exception.

March 14 is the first day of spring break and school offices are closed but the administration building will be staffed between 2 and 5 p.m.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
