Scholarship dance, jewelry seminar on tap this weekend
Denice Doss

So many times we get caught in a rut doing the same thing over and over again. Try something new today that you have never done before. Shake things up a little in a good way. Smile at someone you don’t know. Give a compliment. Introduce yourself to a stranger. Go a different way home and really notice what you see.

Every “living” thing changes daily... many of us are as lively as a rock. All I’m saying is do something new today for someone else, with a smile on your face. I promise, you will not regret it.

On Friday, Feb. 18 is the Father-Daughter Dance with proceeds going to the Chuck Betchan Scholarship Fund. We have tickets at the Chamber or you can buy them at the door. The dance is from 7- 9 p.m. at the Patterson Center. What a special memory for you dads to take your daughter out. I hope you are all planning that date with your precious girl.

Elaine Van Horn will have a Collectible Costume Jewelry Seminar at the Chamber at Hogan Hall from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. The cost is $50 and you will learn the history of jewelry, designers, materials and trademarks, pricing, care and keeping. Call Elaine Van Horn at 446- 0118 to sign up.

Reminder that we are having the Commercial Shredder at the Chamber on Friday, March 25 from 9am-12 noon. The cost is 16 cents per pound for business and individuals. Bring a bagful or a trailerload.

We continue to work on our website information. If you haven’t sent your membership update yet you can email it, fax it or bring it by. This will be a work in progress for a while but we want your information as updated as possible. Take a minute and fill out the update and get it to us.

The plans for the Tejas Festival are going great. Each day it seems a new development comes in which will make the festival better. Our sponsors this year are Linwood Acres Garden Club, Crown Garden Club, I& GN Depot, Rockdale Downtown Association, Thursday Reading Club, Kay Theatre, Dr. Lucile Estell, Tanya Rodgers Auctions, Humanities Texas, Rockdale Reporter, KRXT, City of Rockdale and Citizens Bank. Put March 5 on your calendar as we get ready for the 5th annual Art and Book Festival— Catch the Spirit in Rockdale, Texas.

Until next time I leave you with this......Love doesn’t make the world go round, it makes the ride worthwhile.
