Lankford Lankford HOUSTON—Funeral services for Michael Lankford, 57, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, at Chapelwood United Met ho dist Church in Houston. A graveside serv ice will be held at 2 p.m. S u nd ay, Fe b. 20, at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale.

Mr. Lankford died peacefully surrounded by his wife, family and friends on Feb. 12, after a courageous and valiant 10-year battle with cancer.

He was born in Houston on April 21, 1953, to Harold and Faye Lankford.

He graduated from the University of Texas in 1976 where he was a member of the Texas Cowboys and Sigma Nu fraternity.

In his early business life, Mr. Lankford was an owner of Britton’s Men’s Clothing, and later found his calling as a real estate developer, providing much needed affordable housing for senior Texans across our state.

He was instrumental in organizing the Texas Affiliation of Affordable Housing Providers, and served as its president from 2003 to 2004.

Mr. Lankford enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing from his boat dock and cooking what he caught for family and friends. His passion and talent as a gourmet cook was well known, as was his temper when he missed a threefoot putt.

Mr. Lankford was preceded in death by his mother, Faye Lankford; a brother, Lynn Lankford; and his grandparents.

Survivors are his wife, Claudia Lankford; his father, Harold Lankford; a cousin, Gary Lankford and wife Sandy; a nephew, Cole Lank ford; an aunt and uncle, Eddie and Lynn Lankford; his mother-in-law, Ingeborg Romeike; a sister-in-law, Manuela Hancock; a niece, Ericka Lalka and family; two nephews, Marc Willy and family, Christopher Keith and family; Elizabeth Puetz and family; a granddaughter, Amy Lee Murdock and family; a grandson, Cody Brown and family; and his dog, Molly; also, many other family and friends.
