Irwin turns in another great season at Howard Payne
He was selected all-conference last season and is a shoein again in 2011 after leading the league in scoring. He was named the player of the week on two different occassions.
He was the pre-season players of the year and will surely be in the running for that honor and will probably get some All-American attention.
Irwin led Howard Payne in scoring (19.2) steals, 3-pointers and minutes played by almost double.
In a three-game span, Irwin pumped in 32, 31 and 30 points.
He was held to nine points in the season finale loss to Hardin-Simmons, but attempted just eight shots.
Howard Payne finished the season at 5-20 overall and 4- 17 in the American Southwest Conference (dropping seven in a row and 14 of their last 15), which is taking some getting used to by Irwin, who led Thorndale to back-to-back state championships in 2007 and 2008 and was the player of the year in 2008.
Part of the Yellowjackets problem is that Irwin is one of the tallest players on the team at 6-foot-3.
They are regularly beaten on the boards and allowed 85 points a game, while averaging just 72.
The tallest player on the team is Kanyon Payne, who checks in at 6-foot-6 and averages 5.3 rebounds per game. Shooting guard Irwin is next at 4.5.
Former Irwin schoolmates Lindsey and Morgan Youngblood are important contributors to the Angelo St. women’s program.
The Rambelles are aiming for the Lone Star Conference tournament after going 15-9 on the season and are currently in second place, with two games left to play.
The 5-10 twins have been starters for the Belles and Lindsey leads the team in free throw shooting at 75 percent.
In the Belles last game against Incarnate Word, Lindsey scored 13 points and picked off six steals in the 53- 49 win.
Morgan was recently named to the Capitol One All-Academic team, sporting a 3.47 grade point average as a chemistry major.
Here are the five best movies that Rockdale’s own Dana Andrews appeared in:
1. The Best Years of Our Lives (1946)—His best performance next to Fredric March.
2. In Harm’s Way (1965)— Gets his come-uppance from the Duke.
3. Laura (1944)—The film noir film of all film noir films.
4. The Ox Bow Incident (1946)—A morality play, per say.
5. Zero Hour (1957)—The movie Airplane is based on this sky drama.
