Tejas weekend has something for everyone

This is the big week for our fifth annual Tejas Art, Book and Cultural Festival. The committee has worked hard and it is all coming together for a great event. The fun starts at 9 a.m. and will be held all over town from the Depot to the Kay Theatre to the Library and beyond. There will be authors in the library all day long with their books for sale. What a great opportunity to have Barnes & Nobles here in Rockdale.

The authors in the library will be Dan Utley and Cynthia Beeman, Rick Hertless, Ramona Holbrook, Jodi Johnson, Chuck Taylor, James Williams, Clay Coppedge, Jeanne Williams and Shirley Williams and Joy Graham. Abbie Brannam Johnson will be the Christian Information Book Store signing her book.

The Auto & Bike Show is from 10 a.m. to 2:30 on Milam Street and the Swap Meet is located on Milam Street at Ham Branch RV Park.

At the Kay Theatre there will be face painting from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. At noon a play called “The Opthamologist’s Wife” will be performed by playwright Fernando Dovalina and actress Dolly Fischer. This delightful play will be a joy to watch. There will also be face painting at the Kay.

The local garden clubs will provide a Nature Center which will include the yearly plant exchange, hanging baskets for sale, birdhouses and yard art for sale, gardening books and free gardening advice from the club members. They will also have projects for the kids to enjoy.

The I&GN Depot will offer a lot of demonstrations such as blacksmith, candlemaker, flintknapper, plus tours of the trains cars and the model trains will be running. They will also be serving their sausage wraps that they are famous for. Clifton Fifer, cowboy poet and teller of Native American tales will be at the depot all day.

There will be food booths all over town which include breakfast tacos by the Relay For Life, breakfast booth by Kay Theatre near Wolf Park, funnel cakes by Modernistic Club, sausage wraps at the Depot, potato bar at the car show and the Lions Club wiill have snowcones and drinks.

Communities in Concert Band will perform by the library and Sparky Thomason will perform by the Citizens National Bank. There will be activities all around town. And don’t forget Market Day going on with booths at Tisket A Tasket and Antique Queens. There will be a lot of activity in Rockdale. Come out and have a great time on Saturday, March 5.
