Mark March 26 for busy day in T’dale

BY DARLENE TUCKER
TACC Secretary

The Thorndale Area Chamber of Commerce (TACC) met Feb. 22 in a regular meeting and reviewed the plans for their upcoming classic car show, “Airing of the Quilts” show, Louis Motorcycle Run and arts and crafts show.

The classic car show and Louis Motorcycle Run will be held in the downtown area on Saturday, March 26. Awards will be given in several categories. Shine up your classic car or truck and bring it on over to the car show for a chance to win a category or even Best of Show.

Look for flyers to be out soon or on our website, thorndaletx.com. Participants will receive a T-shirt and koozie just for entering the event. Contact Trey Felton at 512-898-2514 or Brian Morton at 512-658- 5378 for more information on the car show.

The “Airing of the Quilts” will be held in the TACC building in downtown Thorndale on the same day. The TACC quilt committee of Sarah Beard, Rosalie Biar, Donna Johnston and Darleen Tucker have been working hard on the Boot Scootin’ Quilt designed for this special occasion. The quilt has been pieced by the committee and is now being quilted by Virginia Ledoux.

Look for flyers on the raffle quilt in the next week. Contact Tucker at 512-898-2727 for information on entering your special quilt in our show. Quilts will be judged and ribbons awarded at the end of the day. And don’t forget to ask about our raffle tickets.

The arts and crafts booths are filling up fast. If your group would like to reserve a space for a fundraiser, please call Lily Dennis at Country Roads A ntiques at 512- 898- 2121 or Susan Drabek at 512-269-8796. With music and food and lots of fun in the downtown area, your booth will be surrounded by potential customers. Don’t let this opportunity to help your club or group with their fundraising pass you by.

In other business, the TACC heard from Audrey Gamble on the new Facebook page for the TACC. Look for more information on TACC activities on this newest format for spotlighting our members and Thorndale events. Susan Drabek gave an update on City of Thorndale activities and Louis Alvarez shared information regarding the Silver Spurs Spring Jam to be held at Apache Pass on April 15-16.

Bevo will attend this event as well as Jerry Jeff Walker. In addition, a BBQ contest will be held. The TACC is helping to promote this event. In addition, Darleen Tucker shared that the Milam County Historical Commission had approved a grant for $1500 to preserve the old city jail.

Additional items included the TACC Constitution and By-Laws update was approved on third reading and copies will be available to members next week. After discussion, it was voted to change the meeting date for the TACC to the fourth Monday of the month, beginning in April. The TACC also made tentative plans to hold a Meet the Candidate forum on Monday, May 2, for the upcoming city election and school board election.

If you would like to join the TACC and help promote the business climate in Thorndale, please contact any TACC Director. Help us spread the word that a good time in a small town is a reality especially on Saturday, March 26, at the car/quilt/arts and craft show.
