‘8-liners’ raid zaps machines


8-liners were subjects of raid 8-liners were subjects of raid A raid Friday evening raid on “8-liner” gaming machines in Cameron and Rockdale resulted in 29 of them being rendered useless.

Chief Deput y Sheriff Chris White said the raids, one in Rockdale and three in Cameron, were the result of a fivemonth long investigation by the Sheriff’s Special Investigations Unit.

White said the businesses involved were the Rockdale Sunny Food Mart, 1300 West Cameron; Cameron Sunny Food Mart, 900 West Travis; Cameron Mini-Mart, 600 North Travis; storage building, 1600 North Travis, Cameron (known locally as the “old T-shirt shop), housing 8-liner machines for

Sunny Food Mart.

White said investigators from several agencies went to each location. The businesses were temporarily closed while investigators collected evidence, seized cash and disabled the machines.

“We did not make any arrests during the procedure,” White said. “Evidence will be turned over to the prosecutor’s office.”

Taking part in the raids were the Milam County Sheriff’s Department, Rockdale and Cameron Police Departments, Precinct 1 and 3 constables and the Department of Public Safety. Warrants were issued by Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Rick Gommert.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
