Playwright to appear at Kay on Saturday

Houston playwright Fernando Dovalina and actress Dolly Fischer, also from Houston, will take center-stage at Rockdale’s annual Tejas Festival at noon Saturday, courtesy of the Kay Theater.

Dovalina is a graduate of the School of Journalism at the University of Texas in Austin. In 2000, after 31 years, he retired as assistant managing editor of The Houston Chronicle. and began a second career in playwriting.

The play, “The Opthalmologist’s Wife,” tells the story of a husband who panics after suffering sudden amnesia.

As his wife slowly and methodically tries to coax him back into the reality of their lives, they begin to rediscover each other.

Davolina will read the role of the husband and the wife will be read by Fischer, who is a favorite of Davolina’s and has had several parts written by him for her.

There is no charge for this event.

Admission will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
