Milam unemployment rate back to over 11%
Jobless numbers in double figures 23 out of last 25 months
Unemployment rates across the Central Texas area have jumped to start off the new year, according to reports released Thursday by the Texas Workforce Commission ( TWC). Jobless numbers rose to 11.1 in Milam County for January, the highest since February 2010. Unemployment was at its highest a year ago at 11.8 percent in Milam County. Full Story
Tax rebates still on decline for Rockdale
Milam County revenue down for year
AUSTIN—Texas Comptroller Susan Combs announced last week that the state sales tax revenue in February was $1.75 billion, up 9.7 percent compared to February 2010.
The City of Rockdale and Milam County are down in rebate money compared to the amounts received in March 2010. Other cities in the county were up in amounts received compared to a year ago. Full Story

‘Beautification’ meeting canceled for Thursday
The economic summit on beautification that was to be sponsored by the City of Rockdale on Thursday has been canceled.
The event, that was to be held at the Patterson Civic Center, will be rescheduled for a later date. Full Story
