Chamber awards banquet set for March 24th
Denice Doss

The Chamber Banquet is fast approaching and we are excited about the 59th annual banquet. The date is Thursday, March 24, at 5:30 p.m. at the Rockdale Junior High commons. We are appreciative of the support of the community and of the members. We have a great organization and a great history and I am proud to be a part of the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce. So call the Chamber at 446-2030 for your tickets for our banquet.

We have several other events coming up this month. On Monday, March 28 we have the “town hall” meeting for Milam County to discuss where we are going and how we want to get there. Citizens around Milam County have been meeting for months about future plans for Milam County since the closing of Alcoa.

Now it is time for all the citizens to come together to give their input to CTCOG about future grants for economic purposes for the area. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the Patterson Center for Milam County residents. Come with your good ideas as we work together. Refreshments will be served.

On Friday, April 1, Lee’s Landing will host their grand opening and Chamber mixer from 6-8 p.m. The ribbon cutting will be held at 5:30 at their location on Cameron Ave. Come out and visit with Lee and the staff and sample some of his good food.

It is more important than ever for our businesses to help each other, promote each other and shop each other. As your customers come in to your business, suggest that they use other businesses in town. Let’s support each other, as small communities do so well.

Encourage visitors to stay in our area hotels, eat at our local restaurants and shop at our local businesses. If we help each other we encourage the economic climate of Rockdale.

The Tourism Committee is working hard to promote Rockdale. We have a lot to offer in our area. Let’s start singing our praises to everyone who will listen.

Until next time I leave you with this...I cannot give you the formula for success, but I can give you the formula for failure, which is–try to please everybody.
