RISD seeking calendar input
Rockdale ISD is currently seeking parent and community members’ thoughts on the 2011-2012 school year academic calendar. RISD encourages all shareholders to participate in the calendar survey or share their thoughts with a campus principal or Pam Kaufmann, assistant superintent of instruction and administration, at the central administration building. Interested parties may also email comments to email@example.com.
As the RISD Calendar Committee meets to develop recommendations for the Board of Trustees regarding the 2011-12 school year calendar, the results of the opinion survey and comments will be two of several factors taken into consideration, Kaufmann said. Responses will be tabulated and considered along with the RISD Board of Trustee’s calendar parameters, surrounding district calendars, college schedules and other aspects of the calendar development process.
The school year calendar options for RISD this year are based on the Optional Flexible Year Program, which allows school districts to modify its instructional calendar up to ten days to provide a flexible year program to meet the educational needs of its students.
A flexible year program allows the school district to release students from school on the designated “flex” days if they meet academic criteria established by the school district. Students who do not meet these criteria would receive intensive instructional assistance in smaller group settings.
