Burn ban gets extension from county

Milam County commissioners have extended the county’s outdoor burning ban by at least 60 days.

Meeting Monday in regular session in the county courthouse, commissioners extended the ban at the request of Henry Horelica, Cameron VFD fire chief and president of the Milam County Fire Chiefs Assocaiation.

Horelica said he had polled the county’s fire chiefs and all supported continuation of the ban.

“We don’t want what’s happening in West Texas to happen here,” Horelica said.

Rural residents may still burn household garbage in barrels with a screen, but all burns must be supervised.

Rockdale has its own, permanant, outdoor burning ban.

‘Beautification’ meeting canceled

The economic summit on beautification that was to be sponsored by the City of Rockdale on Thursday has been canceled. The event, which was to have been held at the Patterson Civic Center, will be rescheduled for a later date.
