RHS junior facing sexual assault charges
A 17-year-old Rockdale High School junior, and standout football player, turned himself in Wednesday to face sexual assault charges.
Lt. J.D. Newlin said Derek David turned himself in after an arrest warrant was issued in connection with a March 11 incident involving a 16-year-old female.
Bond was set at $20,000.
Police Chief Thomas Harris said the incident happened when a student forced her to a home and “pushed her into a bedroom.”
Police said the arrest was delayed pending forensic tests.
David was a second-team all-state linebacker and had pledged to play college football at Texas Tech.
