Rockdale raid targets drug dealer
Jonah Zamora, 30, who lives in the 700 block of San Gabriel, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana (5 to 50 pounds).
Chief Deputy Chris White said Sheriff David Greene’s Special Investigations Unit had determined the suspect was dealing marijuana from his residence and began the investigation about a month ago.
He said a search warrant was obtained and the sheriff department investigators, along with Precinct 3 Constable Herbie Vaughan, converged on the residence.
“During the arrest, a loaded pistol was located in Mr. Zamora’s pants pocket,” White said. The pistol was seized.
White said more than five pounds of marijuana was found during the search, along with more than $2,300 in cash.
“The marijuana is believed to have a street value of over $3,500,” White said.
Investigators also seized a 12-gauge shotgun, packaging material and scales during their search of Zamora’s residence.
Zamora was taken to the Milam County Jail where he was arraigned on the third-degree felony charge.
Bond of $20,000 was set by Justice of the Peace Sam Berry.
SECOND RAID—Monday’s action was the second major drug raid in Rockdale in two months.
On Feb. 9, the Special Investigations Unit, and Rockdale police, arrested nine persons during raids on a room in the Budget Inn Motel and a residence in the 500 block of College.
Materials to make a drug lab, three grams of methamphetamines and $600 were seized by investigators.
