Milano High School sophomore Jamie Czajkowski competed at the Region II Division III Powerlifting Championships in Riesel on Saturday, placing first in the 181-pound class, and has now qualified for the state powerlifing meet. He set new personal bests in all three lifts with a 490 pound squat, 325 pound bench press and 470 pound deadlift. This gave him a new career best 1,285 pound total and was enough to win the regional championship in the weight class, powerlifting coach Sean Connor said. “All the hard work that Jamie has put in over the last two years has really paid off. His focus on Saturday was the best I have seen out of him,” Connor said. The state meet is March 26 in Abilene. This is just the second year for Milano’s powerlifting program and the second lifter to make a state meet. In 2010, Christin Catalina finished in the top five at the girls’ powerlifting state championships.
