Tigers face top teams at Brownwood

Will play four games in five days during spring break

Reporter/Bill Martin In District 23-3A, the Rockdale baseball team will face some stiff competition and the Tigers certainly got a preview of things to come with a bracket loaded with quality opponents this past weekend at the Brownwood Tournament.

The Tigers defeated Fort Stockton 12- 6, while falling to Brownwood 15-4, Stephenville 10-0 and Denton Liberty Christian 17-7

Rockdale is 4-9-1 on the season as spring break approaches.

The Tigers are spending their break on the field and mostly on the road, playing four games in five days.

Rockdale travels to San Marcos on Thursday and then to No. 10 ranked Llano on Friday.

The Tigers return home Saturday to host Liberty Hill in an afternoon game.

Tuesday, the Tigers open District 23-3A action by travelling to Smithville.

LaGrange—ranked 12th in the state—has the best record with an impressive 10-1 mark. Giddings, hoping for another shot at a state title, follows at 9-4 and is No. 17 in Class 3A.

Caldwell stands in at 8- 6 and Smithville 4-7.

LIBERT Y CHR ISTIA N— Liberty Christian scored in five of the six innings in the tourney opener and went on to post a 17-7 win.

Rockdale’s Dillan Schnerr blasted a home run, double and single. He ended with 3 RBIs and three runs scored.

Cody Skubal drilled a 3-run homer for Rockdale.

Mound duties were shared by Justin Herrera and Braden Byrd.

STEPHENVILLE—Rockdale had only 4 hits against Stephenville, two by Cody Burrough, in a 10-0 second round loss.

Ethan Brinkley, Ty Kirk and Byrd pitched for RHS.

FT. STOCKTON—Big Blue won 12- 6, rapping out 14 hits, including two home runs by Schnerr. Tate Pounders picked up the win while Duke Schneider finished on the hill.

BROWNWOOD— Schnerr drilled another homer in a 15-4 loss to the host team, while Skubal had four hits.

Schneider, Clayton Gibbs and Skubal shared mound duties.
