School trustees set principal discussion

Rockdale ISD trustees w ill meet in regular session at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Central Administration Building, according to Supt. Dr. Howell Wright.

Discussion of a new intermediate school principal is an agenda item during an executive session.

Another executive session item is extension of Dr. Wright’s contract and employment of teachers, and other personnel, for the 2011-12 term.

Any action stemming from the closed session discussion would have to be in open session.

RVFD $10,000 prize giveaway set April 16th

The Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department’s annual $10,000 giveaway is set for April 16 at the KC Hall, according to Mike Korenek, spokesman.

“First prize is a $10,000 credit card,” Korenek said.

‘Stash Your Trash’ Day ahead on April 9th

The City of Rockdale’s spring Stash Your Trash Day is set for 8 a.m. to 12-noon Saturday April 9 at Fair Park.

City Manager Kelvin Knauf said containers will be located at the park for free disposal of miscellaneous household items (old furniture, mattresses) which may also be placed at the curb for pickup on the second weekly trash pickup day.

Knauf said no motor oil, tires, batteries or any items which contain Freon, hazardous chemicals or liquid paint will be accepted.

“Free chipping for tree limbs 4 inches or smaller in diameter will be available,” he said. “Limbs must be presented in a truck or trailer.”

Anyone needing help getting trash to the park may call the City Public Works office at 446- 5620 or 446-7320.

Restaurant expansion mixer ahead on Friday

The Rockda le Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon cutting commemorating the expansion of Lee’s Landing restaurant at 5:30 p.m. Friday, according to Denice Doss, president.

The ribbon cutting will be followed by a mixer at the restaurant from 6 to 8 p.m., open to all Chamber members, she said.

Gause VFD to host barbecue fund raiser

GAUSE—The Gause Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual barbecue fund raiser Saturday at the fire station, according to Debbie Todd, secretary.

“Serving begins at 11 a.m. and will continue until sold out,” she said. “Brisket and chicken plates will be sold.”

South Milam UW sets annual meeting

The South Milam County United Way will host its annual meeting April 12 at 6 p.m. at Busy Bea Restaurant.

“ With economic challenges facing this area, and the United Way’s 2011 budget, no meal will be furnished board members,” Tom Puccio, spokesperson, said.

Luminant CAP board sets April 11 session

The Luminant Community Advisory Panel (LCAP) will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, April 11, at the Three Oaks Mine office in Lexington, 7207 West FM 696, according to Diane Sheridan, facilitator.

“There will be a facility update and also a presentation by the Lost Pines Groundwater Conservation District,” she said.

“Mining maps will be displayed and attendees may tour the mine maintenance shop,” she said.
