City wins jury trial on cleanup
A long dispute over a property cleanup issue ended Thursday when a six- person Municipal Court Jury found a Rockdale man guilty of violating a city cleanup ordinance.
The jury told Richie Thrasher to put a fence around property in the 1300 block of East Cameron (US 79) and fined him $1,000. Full Story
Leaders asked for ideas to develop former Alcoa smelter
A seven-county region of Central Texas wants to unite behind an idea to again use the former Alcoa Rockdale Operations smelter.
It’s just that nobody knows what that idea is, yet.

Cameron Workforce office closing down this week
Workforce Solutions of Central Texas ( WSCT) is closing its Cameron office at the end of business Thursday, which is the end of the month.
Cameron was one of four offices, including Rockdale’s, listed in jeopardy of closing earlier this month, due to anticipated budget cutbacks, by Susan Kamas, WSCT executive director. Full Story
200 walkers support ‘Out of Darkness’ effort here
More than 200 walkers gathered Saturday at Tiger Field to support the 2011 Rockdale/Milam County “Out of Darkness Campus Walk” to raise funds and awareness for suicide prevention in Central Texas.
Some $3,800 was raised, with collections to continue through June 30, according to Kelli Pelzel, program director Full Story
10th MARC Run Saturday at The Ranch
A motorcycle club’s annual effort which has raised $60,000 in its first nine years, will roll out for the 10th time at 11 a.m. Saturday at The Ranch.
The MARC Run benefits Rockdale’s organization which has cared for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities for 46 years. Full Story
