Cameron Workforce office closing down this week

Workforce Solutions of Central Texas ( WSCT) is closing its Cameron office at the end of business Thursday, which is the end of the month.

Cameron was one of four offices, including Rockdale’s, listed in jeopardy of closing earlier this month, due to anticipated budget cutbacks, by Susan Kamas, WSCT executive director.

“The office staffer submitted her resignation, effective March 31,” Kamas told The Reporter Tuesday. “We’ve decided not to fill that position.”

Kamas said there are no current plans to close the Rockdale office. But that doesn’t mean the crisis is over.

“I don’t have a budget,” Kamas said. “I can’t say for sure what’s going to happen long-term. We still need people to contact our senators and congressional representatives and ask them to fund us.”

Centers in Temple and Lampasas were also listed at risk.
