Lady Tigers drop two in district campaign

Rockdale came up against the teams most coaches picked to be the top two squads in District 23AAA and neither No. 23 LaGrange nor No. 20 Giddings did anything to mar those reputations.

LaGrange ripped RHS 13- 1 on Fr iday and Giddings defeated the Lady Tigers 10-0 Tuesday.

That left Rockdale at 2-2 in district play, 6-5 overall.

The L ady L eopa rd s (17- 7) scored 9 runs in the bottom of the first inning Friday and never looked back en route to a 13-1 win.

“That was a tough loss,” coach Amanda Keen said. “We’re better than that.”

Marissa Mireles and Hailey Offield each tripled for Rockdale while Mackenzie Tater and Maci Wages singled.

Dylan Supak, Rebecca Proske and Breanna Homer singled for the Lady Leopards while Shea Cook, Madison Knesek, Alyssa Angel and Brittini Abschneider added singles.

Abschneider was winning pitcher, fanning seven and walking one.

“ We need to step up in the box and fix some of our fielding errors,” Keen said.

“Next time we play LaGrange they’re going to see a different team,” she added.

Giddings 10, Rockdale 0

Top-20 ranked Giddings held the Lady Tigers to one hit in a 10-0 victory Tuesday.

Kayleigh Montelongo’s fifth inning single was Big Blue’s only hit. She was left stranded at first.

RHS got a base runner in the fourth when Jill Young reached base on an error. She was also left stranded at first.

Montelongo went the distance on the hill for the Lady Tigers, fanning five. Catcher Maci Wages made up the rest of the RHS battery.

Giddings scored in every inning but the second.

The Lady Buffaloes were picked as one of 23A A A’s top teams ad have already had key team members commit to play at Texas A&M and Blinn.
