New month brings busy time

This weekend is the Nature Fest in Cameron at Ledbetter Park. This is their second year and it promises to be bigger and better than last year. Make your way to Cameron and enjoy this free event. A fun and educational event for family members of all ages, with many exhibits, presentations and children hands-on activities regarding many aspects of nature–birds, bats, reptiles, snakes, horned lizard, native grasses, wildflowers and more, including visitors from the Cameron Park Zoo.

On Saturday, April 16, the Lions’ Club, the Chamber and Manor Oaks Nursing Home will be sponsoring an Easter Egg Hunt at 10 a.m. on the grounds of Manor Oaks Nursing Home. The hunt is open to all children through fifth grade.

Also on April 16 Apache Pass will host the Bevo Bash with the Silver Spurs from University of Texas. Jerry Jeff Walker will be out there plus a lot of other bands and activities. Bevo will make an appearance and there will be several local vendors out there providing the good food that we are so noted for.

The vendors will include the Rockdale PD with their hamburgers, the Rockdale Historical Society with their sausage wraps, the Modernistic Club with funnel cakes, Downtown CafĂ© with grilled chicken sandwiches, Rising Star Baptist Church with chopped barbecue, Misty McCoy with loaded fries, super nachos and lemonade and Trey Felton with fajitas. Milam County 4-H and the MARC Center will also be out there. It should be a great day and you don’t want to miss it. The tickets are $25 so come by the Chamber and get your tickets. Online the ticket price is $35 so some savings buying it here.

A third event on April 16 is the Dewberry Fun Run, sponsored by Alpha Tau Delta. Signup sheets are at the Chamber and you can pick up your packets on Friday, April 15 from the Chamber. There will be a kids 1K race beginning at 8 a.m., for kids 13 and under. Following that will be the 5K and 10K (10K is new this year) races. Overall prizes for top three male and top three female finishers in 5K and 10K race. All entrants receive t-shirt. Participants can register online at Runtex.com or Active.com.

Until next time I leave you with this...You must be the change you wish to see in the world.
