Rockdale High School will be host a parent meeting for all 2011- 12 freshman from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 7 in the high school cafeteria, principal Joey Geletka announced.

Parents of current eighth grade students will have the opportunity to ask questions regarding high school programs and requirements, as well as, build their child’s 2011- 12 course schedule with help from the counseling and administrative staff.

TC dual enrollment registration April 12

Representatives from Temple College will be at Rockdale High School on Tuesday, April 12 to register students for dual enrollment classes for the 2011-12 school year, counselor Kathie Bowermon has announced. The meetings will be held in the high school cafeteria.

“Current or returning Temple College students will register at 6 p.m. Those students who have never attended Temple College will register at 6:45,” Bowermon said. Both the student and parent are highly encouraged to attend.

Milano OAP to compete at area Saturday

Milano High School’s One-Act Play will compete in the area round of competition on Saturday at Hempstead High School. The group will perform sf “The History of Tom Jones”. There are six plays in the contest and Milano is third to go on. First curtain goes up at 10 a.m. and the 40-minute plays will be running back-to-back.

The troup recently advanced through zone and district contest to reach the area round.

At zone, held March 22 in Cameron, Elisabeth Thomason was named best actress, with Hayden Wilson and Stonie Guthrie receiving all-star cast awards. Dylan Eastland and Hayleigh Lagrone earned honorable mention all-star cast honors.

At district contest held March 26 in Brenham, Stonie Guthrie was named best actress. Hayden Wilson, Travis Marsh and Dylan Eastland were named to the all-star cast. Honorable mention all-star cast awards for Milano went to Trevor Gage and Elisabeth Thomason. Milano also won the best crew award for crew members Taryn Love, Blair Geer, Jaxson Robinson, Lexi Melton and Mary Evans.

Milano’s OAP is directed by Susan Meyer and Sherry Lagrone.

RHS off-campus lunch reward April 13

As the result of a recent “off campus lunch” incentive program, students from Rockdale High School will be rewarded with an “off campus lunch” again this week, principal Joey Geletka annouced.

Students who qualified will be given documentation which must be completed and signed by a parent and returned to the high school office and will serve as their pass to “off campus lunch” which will be held Wednesday, April 13. Only students with completed and returned documentation will be allowed to leave campus.

Lexington Pre-K, kindergarten round-up

Lexington Elementary School will hold its annual Pre-K and kindergarten registration April 18-21, principal Lynette Brown has announed.

“This is a great opportunity for parents to come register their children, as well as, visit the campus. This year we will also have a drawing for a boy’s and a girl’s backpack filled with school supplies for the children who are registered during this week,” Brown said.

“We also want to remind everyone that we are accepting applications for transfer students for the 2011-12 school year.”

Applications can be found on line at www.lexingtonisd.net or can be picked up at the LISD Central Office. The deadline for those applications is May 20, 2011.

RIS 5th grade party meeting April 30

Sarah Vreeland has announced a meeting for Rockdale Intermediate School fifth grade parents to help with the end of the year party.

“If you would like to help, the first meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 20 at Hogan-Hall building, located next to the Chamber of Commerce office,” Vreeland said.

Rockdale JH starts recycling program

Rockdale Junior High students have began the “Recycle for Generations” program at the school, according to teacher Rebecca Geletka.

“We are accepting empty inkjet cartridges, laser cartridges and old cell phones from home, work or school,” Geletka said. “Items may be dropped off for recycling at the junior high office.”

Other items being collected include digital cameras, DVDs, video games/consoles.

Thorndale High to hold orientation April 14th

Thorndale High School will host orientation and registration for all students planning on entering Thorndale High School in the ninth grade for the 2011-12 school year. It will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 14, in the school cafeteria.

Parents and students are encouraged to attend.

THS principal Hank Laywell said those attending will have an opportunity to meet many of the staff and faculty members that deal directly with the freshmen. The curriculum choices will be discussed and Debbie Blazier, THS counselor, will field questions about curriculum and elective options as well, as discuss AP studies and their requirements.
