Consumer team takes top honors at invitational

Milam County’s junior division team took top honors at the Brazos County Invitational Consumer Decision Making Contest on Saturday. The team of Emily Graham, Heath Hollas, Rebecca Kostroun and Calla Vinton placed first. The team of Neeraj Bhakta, Gracen Dach,and Victoria Williams placed fourth.

The junior division individual honors for the top ten were: Heath Hollas; first; Gracen Dach, second; Rebecca Kostroun, seventh; Emily Graham, 10th.

Julia Harwell and Hannah Hux represented Milam County in the intermediate division.

The Milam senior team of Elaine Luckey, Natasha Ramthun and Phillip Rasco placed fourth with Luckey also finishing as fourth high individual.

STATE FAIR LAMB, GOAT TAGS–Any youth interested in showing lambs or goats at the State Fair of Texas in September must order validation tags by Thursday, April 7 at the Milam County Extension Office at 100 E. 1st Street in Cameron.

The cost of validation tags is $10 per tag and must be paid for at the time of order. The lambs and goats will be validated in late June. If you have any questions, please call the extension office at 254-697-7045.

STATE FAIR SWINE TAGS–Any youth interested in showing lambs or goats at the State Fair of Texas in September must order validation tags by Thursday, April 14 at the extension office.

The cost of validation tags is $10 per tag and must be paid for at the time of order. The swine will be validated in late June. If you have any questions, please call the extension office.

MAJOR SHOW STEER TAGS–Any youth interested in showing steers at any major show in Fall 2011 or Spring 2012 must order validation tags by Friday, April 15 at the extension office.

The cost of steer validation tags is $10 per tag and must be paid for at the time of order. The steers will be validated in late June. If you have any questions, please call the extension office.

ROCKDALE FAIR TAG-IN DATES–Ownership and tag-in dates for the 2011 Rockdale Fair are as follows:

April 6–Commercial heifers tag-in will be at Arledge Feed Lot, US 79W from 5-7 p.m.

April 22– Turkey orders due at Milam County Extension Office. Each poult will cost $4.20. For each five poults ordered you will have one entry. Turkey pick-up will be on June 22 at Home Demonstration Building at Fair Park.

May 19–Steers tag-in will be at Arledge Feed Lot, Hwy 79 W. from 5-7 p.m.

May 27–Broiler orders due at Milam County Extension Office. Price not available to date. Broiler pick-up will be on Aug. 31 at Home Demonstration Building at Fair Park.

July 9–Lambs, swine and goats tag-in will be at Rockdale Fair Park from 7-9 a.m.

Sept. 14–Rabbits tag-in will be at Fair Park’s Home Demonstration Building from 5-7 p.m.

Entries for the Market Show will be due at each individual tag-in or pick-up at $15 per entry.
