House bill ‘devastating’ for RISD
Two-year loss estimated at $2.7 million; Senate version ‘manageable’
HB 1, the school finance bill which cleared the Texas House of Representatives Sunday night, would have “devastating” consequences for the Rockdale ISD, according to Supt. Dr. Howell Wright.
A bill being considered by the Texas Senate would be “more manageable,” Dr. Wright said, with anticipated cuts of about one third the house version. Full Story

Pelzel new principal in RISD
Superintendent granted extension on contract
Kathy Pelzel, an employee of the Rockdale ISD technology department for the past 10 years, was named new principal of Rockdale Intermediate School Thursday by trustees.

Milano eyeing first police department
MILANO–Milano city officials met with Bucklholts’ mayor and police chief last week to discuss Milano’s quest for a first- ever police department.
Buckholts established its oneman police department last fall and is seeing positive feedback in the town in less vandalism and burglaries, Mayor Hal Senkel and Police Chief James Blackmon told Milano council members. Full Story
MARC run raises $26,000 for project
Ten-year total now surpasses $86,000
Rockdale’s MARC Center needed a big turnout Saturday to raise money for its recent expansion and more than 100 motorcycle enthusiasts provided just that.
The 10th annual MARC run raised $26,000, with donations still coming in. The 10-year total raised by Bad to the Bone Riders is now more than $86,000. Full Story
‘Trash stash’ day Saturday at Fair Park
The City of Rockdale’s spring Stash Your Trash Day is set for 8 a.m. to 12-noon Saturday at Fair Park.
City Manager Kelvin Knauf said containers will be located at the park for free disposal of miscellaneous household items (old furniture, mattresses) which may also be placed at the curb for pickup on the second weekly trash pickup day. Full Story
