RYBA opens season with flag, honors
They call them the Boys (and girls) of Summer.
Rockdale’s Youth Baseball Association (RYBA) got a big jump on summer, holding opening ceremonies for the 2011 season Saturday, the second day of April.
League president Tom Loth said play is under way for 230 youngsters on 21 teams in five leagues. Full Story
Brooks wins 4 events for RHS at Caldwell
CALDWELL—Daniel Brooks won four events, and was second in another, as the Rockdale Tigers finished second in the Hornet Relays Thursday.
The Lady Tigers were third as Emily Brinkley won two events.
QUAD WINNER—Brooks won the long jump (21- 4), 110-high hurdles (14.17), 100 meters (10.66) and 300-hurdles (39.19). Full Story

Softball has a history in our big family
Getting older is not something I have completely wrapped my head around yet. Being over 30 makes me want to cry or maybe its the constant “Mommy, Mommy, Mommy” from my five-year-old son and three-year-old daughter. No matter, my body felt its age after this weekend’s Milano alumni softball game. Full Story
Aces wild: Tigers 1-1 in 1-run thrillers against loop foes
It wasn’t a week for the faint hearted.
The Rockdale Tigers held on for an 8- 7 win over Caldwell on Friday, then dropped a 6-5 extra-inning thriller to Navasota on Tuesday.
That leaves RHS at 2-3 in district play, 6-14 overall. Full Story
Tiger golfers take District 23AAA win
Rockdale’s Tiger golfers are the champions of District 23AAA.
Rockdale fired a two-day total of 333-319-652 at Navasota Monday and Tuesday to win the loop title by 41 strokes over Caldwell, which shot 366-327-693.
The Lady Tigers were fourth behind Caldwell, La Grange and Smithville. Full Story
LITTLE DAWGS–The Thorndale Dawgs finished second in the Dust the Rust tournament in Taylor on March 26-27. They lost to Hutto/Round Rock Express and beat Pflugerville Yankees in pool play. Full Story
Rotary scholarship golf tourney Saturday
Rockdale Rotary Club’s annual Mike McFalls Memorial Scholarship Scramble golf tournament will be held Saturday, April 9 at Rockdale Country Club.
Homer Mowdy, director, said entry fee is $70 and includes green fee and two mulligans. A maximum 72 players will be entered. Full Story

Lady Tigers take two in district
Rockdale’s Lady Tigers posted huge wins over Caldwell and Navasota to vault into the District 23AAA playoff picture.
Big Blue heads into the weekend with a 4-2 district record, tied for second with Giddings behind 6-0 La Grange.
Kayleigh Montelongo picked up both wins on the mound and also belted a home run against Navasota. Full Story
Lady Dogs, Milano fighting for respective postseason spots
As the second round of district action is underway for both Thorndale and Milano in their respective classifications both are trying to snag a spot in the state softball playoffs.
THORNDALE–The Lady Dogs (11-11, 6-4) finally hit .500 on the season Tuesday night with a 17-2 routing of visiting Florence in just four innings. Full Story
Eagles, Thorndale continue district play
GRANGER–Milano moved to 4-0 in 27A play with a 5-1 win at Granger on Tuesday night. That puts the Eagles at 8-2 on the season with just one game left in the first round of league play.
At Granger, Thomas Sanders tossed the win, striking out seven and walking three. He allowed 12 hits, but a solid defensive effort by the Eagles held the Lions to just one run. Full Story
