Lady Tigers take two in district

Rockdale’s Lady Tigers posted huge wins over Caldwell and Navasota to vault into the District 23AAA playoff picture.

Big Blue heads into the weekend with a 4-2 district record, tied for second with Giddings behind 6-0 La Grange.

Kayleigh Montelongo picked up both wins on the mound and also belted a home run against Navasota.

Rockdale settled the matter with a 5-run third inning, then rode Montelongo’s strong-armed pitching to its second win of the week.

Montelongo was also the game’s hitting star, belting a home run and double, part of a 14-hit Lady Tiger attack.

Rockdale rocked six doubles with MacKenzie Tater belting two and Bailey Pannell, Marissa Mireles and Jill Young also hitting 2-baggers.

J V— Rockdale won the J V game 18- 0, Kelsey Hornung, Oliv ia Bocanegra and Taylor Pickett each had 2 hits.

Emily McCoy tossed the shutout .

The Lady Tigers came out ready to play on Friday night at the Softball Complex, busting out the bats to take a 15-10 victory over Caldwell.

Jill Young was three for four with two doubles. Amanda Boyd, Hailey Offield, Victoria Drake, MacKen z ie Tater a nd K ayla Deary were all two for four at the plate.

Offield tagged a triple, while Tater and Deary had two doubles each.

Defensively, Hailey Offield made key catches in center field dur ing the four th and six th innings to stop a Caldwell scoring rally.

Montelongo tossed the win, striking out four and walking just one.

“We had a good time playing the sport we love,” coach Amanda Keen said. “ We were relaxed and confident in our game. We supported each other on every play.”
