Rockdale Rotary Club’s annual Mike McFalls Memorial Scholarship Scramble golf tournament will be held Saturday, April 9 at Rockdale Country Club.

Homer Mowdy, director, said entry fee is $70 and includes green fee and two mulligans. A maximum 72 players will be entered.

Registration will start at 8:30 a.m. and tee time will be 9:15 with a shotgun start.

Proceeds go to the Rotar y Club’s scholarship fund for deser ving RHS seniors. Last year, the club awarded $10,000 in scholarships.

An auction and fund-raiser will be held Friday evening, April 8, featuring fellowship and prizes, Mowdy said.

Dewberry Jam 5K/10K run, walk April 16th

The 12th annual Rockdale Dewberry Jam 5K/10K run and walk will be held at 8 a. m. Saturday, April 16 at Veterans Memorial Park, corner of Brazos and Murray Streets.

The annual run has raised in excess of $67,000 for improvements at the park and for other community projects.

Awards include $200 for first prize, $100 for second and $50 for third in overall male and female races. Trophies will be awarded for the top three in each age division. All entrants receive a T-shirt.

Age divisions for the Kids 1K are 5 and under, 6-7, 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13. There is also a stroller division. There will also be a jump rope contest for all kids race participants following the race under the park pavilion.

Age divisions in the 5K and this year’s new 10K race for 5K male and female include 16 and under, 17-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50- 59, 60-69 and 70 and older.

Prices are $15 before April 16 and $20 on race day. The course is USATF/RRTC certified.

Packet pickup is Friday, April 15 at the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce, 1203 W. Cameron Ave. or pick up on race day at the registration table.

Dawson scholarship fund-raiser tourney

A “crazy 16-inch” co-ed softball tournament to raise funds for the Germaine Dawson Scholarship Fund has been set for Saturday, April 16 at the girls softball complex off Bushdale Road in Rockdale. Organizer Michael Bleeker said the deadline to sign up teams is 8 p.m. Friday, April 15. Game will start at 9 a.m. and will be played for one hour. Teams must consists of 10 or more players and entry fee is $5 per player (minimum $50).

Drawings for prizes will be held after the first game and tickets are being sold for $5 each for a barbecue pit.

Dawson’s family will also be on site selling barbecue plates.

Milano Lodge sets golf tourney April 16

MILANO–Milano Lodge #605 AF&AM will host its 11th annual four-man scramble tourney on Saturday, April 16 at the Cameron Country Club with tee time set for 9 a.m.

The tournament will benefit the group’s scholarship fund. Entry is $40 per person and prizes will be awarded to first through third places. Mulligans are available for $5 each, limit four.

Prizes will also be awarded for longest drive and closest to the pin. Lunch and drinks will be provided. Hole sponsorships are still available.
