Barnett retires from Air Force
SAN ANTONIO–Master Sergeant Lynn Barnett, a 1985 Milano High School graduate, was honored April 8 with a retirement ceremony at Lackland Air Force Base, after 24 years of service in the United States Air Force.
Upon enlisting in the air force in July 1987 and graduating from Basic Training, Barnett was assigned to Bergstrom AFB in Texas and was recognized as the 1990 Professional Provider of the Year for Tactical Air Command. In December 1991, he was deployed to King Khalid International Airport and then Cairo-West Egypt for Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
Stints in Germany and New Mexico followed and included four deployments in support of operations Provide Comfort, Provide Hope, Deny Flight, Northern Watch and Southern Watch.
In July 1998, Barnett was selected for special duty assignment as a Military Training Instructor. He has also served at bases in South Korea, and the last six and a half years at Lackland AFB in San Antonio.
Barnett has received the Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, the Air Force Com- mendation Medal with four oak leaf clusters and the Air Force Achievement Medal with two oak leaf clusters.
While in the Air Force, Barnett completed his Master’s degree in education, bachelor of science in occupational education and two Community College of the Air Force degrees in logistics management and instructor of technology and military studies.
He and his wife Wendy will return to the Milam County area. They have two children, Brittany and Cutter.
