Matinee members elected to Texas Federation offices

District 4, which includes Rockdale, Navasota and Waco, was Texas Federation of Music Clubs host of the 96th annual convention March 31-April 2 at the Waco Hilton.

President Carla Johnson of Lubbock/Austin presided. National guest Starla Blair of Missouri was keynote National Federation of Music Clubs speaker at the Thursday banquet with Gloria Thrasher of Rockdale as master of ceremonies.

Matinee Musical Club of Rockdale hosted the dinner and reception following the concert of Dr. Joyce Jones, artist in residence at Baylor School of Music, Roxy Grove Hall. The Friday evening performance featured the NFMC Young Artist in Piano, Dr. James Cockman III of Kansas City. Many musical interludes were given by convention attendees and student performers.

Matinee members attending were Gloria Thrasher, Annette Griesbach, Pat Owens and Donnie Rinn.

TFMC members representing all nine state districts were present at the convention for the election and installation of the new slate of officers for 2011-13. Annette Griesbach was installed as 2nd vice-president and Gloria Thrasher was installed as auditor.

Matinee Musical Club is a member of Texas and National Federation of Music Clubs which promotes American Music and composers, and supports music education and student musicians.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
