Carter, Flores continue Tiger tradition

SMITHVILLE—Rockdale’s mixed doubles team of Dylan Carter and Ginny Flores is heading for regional competition at Bryan High School Friday and Saturday.

Carter and Flores finished second in their bracket of the District23AAAmeet,held April 6-7 in Smithville.

Carter and Flores started with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Ray and Flippin of Caldwell, then defeated Sgovio and Proske of La Grange 7-5, 6-3 in the semifinals.

Hickman and Hurst of Smithville defeated Carter and Flores 6-4, 7-5 in the finals.

Top two finishers qualify for regionals. Third-place finishers are regional alternates.

Rockdale’s Evan McCoy and Katie Strelsky advanced to the semifinals. (See scoreboard, page 2C)

Smithville won boys and girls division team titles.

RESULTS— Caroline Wilde was fourth in girls singles, defeating teammate Mara McAdams 6-3, 6-2.

Wilde lost a third-place playback to McCaffey of La Grange.

Hugo Ayala and Nicholas Pelzel advanced to the semifinals in boys doubles, drawing a first round bye and defeating Martin and Bunch of La Grange 6-0, 6-1 in the quarters.

JV—Lawrence Ewald was third in JV boys single, defeating Partridge of La Grange 8-6, losing to Jackson of Giddings 8-1 and defeating Joost of La Grange 8-4.
